The Whos Knew!

Turns out the Whos down in Who-ville had it right. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” by Dr. Seuss spins the story of the Grinch, who decides to deprive the Whos of their Christmas celebration by stealing their presents and decorations. But, to the Grinch’s surprise, the Whos continue their observance without the gifts. This prompts [...]

Gratitude is sweetest when shared

Sometimes funny situations teach great lessons. It was the usual schedule: up at 4:30 am, out the door by 5 am to take my son to ice hockey practice, pickup another hockey team mate on the way to the rink, dash home, get ready for work and head out the door again. On this morning [...]

“I’ll keep you in my prayers.”

It’s a phrase I hear often, “I’ll keep you in my prayers!” It comes with an expectation of good, not just nice words. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (part of the National Institutes of Health), prayer for oneself and prayer for others are the two most common forms of complementary [...]

Prayer and Health

Have you ever searched the internet to see what information is available about you? If you have, you would be among the fifty-seven percent of American internet users who say they have looked themselves up on the internet. An even larger number of people say they look for information about health on the internet. The [...]

15 minutes OR legacy?

Front page headlines quickly fade. What is it that determines credibility? There are lots of words that swirl around, it is the actions, the works, that designate credibility.

Mary Baker Eddy, founder of the Christian Science church and writer of Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures lived the words she wrote. Here’s the part that animates her credibility for me, today – her writings are a map that anyone can follow and experience healing.

Her’s was no purely intellectual pursuit. She took Jesus’ directive seriously – to go and use the understanding of God to know that God is, that God is good, that God is good now, that God is good now and that God is knowable, discernible.

Eddy was called to situations presumed hopeless and healed. She proved the transformative power of God!

For me her 15 minutes transformed into a legacy because she didn’t keep it to herself. Instead she taught others and they found results. Eddy wrote a book that anyone can pick up, read, and use to find answers to problems of every sort.

I can write this because I’ve experienced it. I’ve seen others experience it.

Gratitude during adversity

Can there be gratitude in the middle of adversity?
There were sweet plans for Thanksgiving. Menus decided. Choreographed get-togethers arranged. The anticipation of being with family and friends was like a fragrant bouquet.
But there was no Thanksgiving dinner. No smiles of appreciation in the recognition of the past year’s good. No turkey aroma wafting from the kitchen. Not even a smackeral of pumpkin pie! » Read more..

Reading the Holy Bible

Do you read with the eyes of your heart? That’s the only way I’ve found to approach the Holy Bible.

It started decades ago, the first time I read the Bible cover to cover. I wondered how a book that chronicles man’s quest to know God, could be so divisive. » Read more..

No why…know why not

In these situations people often ask – why?

A celebration for good grades became a night of tragedy when 18 year old Bobby Tillman was beaten to death. By all reports it was an act of random violence. It was brutal.

It has left the community sad and bewildered – wondering what can be done to end senseless violence.

The only answer I’ve found in the face of violence is prayer. » Read more..

Beyond the Rainbow

I found myself with a ticket to the Atlanta premier of For Colored Girls, Tyler Perry’s latest film. It’s a complete turn around for Perry, who has previously written, directed and starred in comedies. This  is based on Ntozake Shange’s Tony award nominated play, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When The Rainbow Is Enuf. Perry’s vision is a vividly gritty film beautifully acted that portrays violence, depravity, self-loathing and victimization and ends with the choice to live life still carrying along the burdens of their histories. To me, the end of the movie was just the beginning of the story. Isn’t the real question is: how do we relinquish the graffiti of scars that record the agonies of the past?… » Read more..

A Different Model for Thinking

The comment that started the conversation was, “Anyone who doesn’t go to the doctor is an idiot!” In my best matter of fact tone of voice replied, “ Well, I suppose you think I’m an idiot” Suddenly, a hush fell over my knitting class and the click of the knitting needles suddenly fell silent as they waited to see what would be said next. The woman who made the comment, a former Philadelphia prosecutor, stared at me and stated, “It’s irresponsible not to get medical care!” … » Read more..

a face in the crowd

I asked myself, where does this blog fit in the market place of thought and ideas?  It struck me that I’m just another face in the crowd. I’m no different than the person you may have passed in the grocery store or in the mall. I think we’re all looking for “the good life.”

A lot of years ago Christian Science and I found each other. I had always been familiar with it, but I wasn’t sure it was for me. For me, it’s a method and system for knowing God and understanding my relationship with this all-Good presence. It’s been practical for finding solutions to life’s problems, no matter how big or small. And, it’s fostered within me a profound gratitude for all the good in life – from the butterfly outside my window to  a smile or laugh shared. It’s precious to me, so I want to make sure that good and correct information about Christian Science is available. That’s why I serve as spokesman for Christian Science in this beautiful state called Georgia.

So….How do you do! I’m Stormy Becker Falso. Got questions about Christian Science? I don’t have all the answers. But if we start talking to each other maybe we can find a common ground to at least begin the discussion.
